BACTEC PLUS blood culture bottles should be kept at room temperature when not in use
Sample Requirement:

10mL of sterile body fluid in Green cap BacT/ALERT FA Plus Aerobic bottle AND 10mL blood in Orange cap BacT/ALERT FN PLus (anaerobic) bottle

For paediatric patients: 4mL of sterile body fluid in Yellow cap BacT/ALERT bottle

Note:

  • BacT/ALERT culture bottles should be kept at room temperature when not in use
  • In adults: Optimally 10 mL of sterile body fluid  per culture bottle should be collected for microbial culture as larger volumes of sterile body fluid increase the yield of true positive cultures.
  • BACTEC PLUS culture bottles should be kept at room temperature when not in use
