BCID2FA can be ordered via 2 ways:

1. For very critically ill patients or patients known to have MDRO, physicians may order BCID2FA at the point when blood culture was taken. In the request form, indicate “aerobic and anaerobic blood cultures, and BCID2FA if positive”. Lab will add on BCID2FA if blood culture flags positive, OR

2. At the point where Gram stain results are informed, i.e., technologist will offer BCID2FA when they call physician to inform Gram stain results.

Note: Patients with recent known positive cultures with ID and ST reported do not benefit from BCID2FA on repeat cultures.
